Colorado State University Department of Atmospheric Science

The Tropical Meteorology Project was founded by Dr. William Gray (1929-2016), who was the first to issue seasonal Atlantic hurricane forecasts. The Project, located in the Department of Atmospheric Science, has delivered annual hurricane forecasts since 1984. Dr. Phil Klotzbach, co-author from 2001 to 2005 and lead author of the forecasts since 2006, has published more than 30 peer-reviewed journal articles on various aspects of tropical cyclones. He is a non-resident scholar with the Insurance Information Institute and presently serves as chair of the expert team on seasonal forecasting for the World Meteorological Organization.
